Prior to WhosOff we managed, if you can call it that, our time out of the office using email approval and hand filled forms. Holiday and sickness was tracked in a spreadsheet and was constantly out of date. Trying to get approvals was sometimes impossible, if the employee's line manager was out of the office.
As a company, we wanted a better, more convenient way of booking, approving and tracking holidays. Tracking sick days was of secondary concern, the primary driver was the ability to book and approve holidays. With limited internal IT resources, the obvious solution for us was a web-based application.
The real win with WhosOff is the reliability of the data. We didn't ever do the maths to work out exact time saved, but without running around and chasing a paper-based approval, time saving is considerable.
WhosOff is a definite asset to the business. It gives us a single, reliable source for all employee holiday and sickness data. It's possible to go back to a paper-based system, but with great impact to this part of our HR processes.
